2009 season:
Johncock had a difficult start to 2009 when his mother passed away on the eve of Adelaide’s season opener and he missed the game against Collingwood to attend the funeral in Port Lincoln. He returned to Adelaide’s line up in round two and produced some of his best football from defence. His trademark run and carry was again a highlight as he collected 253 kicks, the fifth highest at the club, 216 handballs and 128 marks, finishing third at the club. He polled 38 votes at Club Champion finishing equal fourth. He played his 150th AFL game in round four against Geelong, the 12th Crow to reach the milestone. Johncock reflected on his difficult start to the year and believed he approached the tough time in a positive frame of mind. "One thing I wanted to do was to get back and enjoy my footy again, which I've sort of gone away from in the past few years and I'm doing that at the moment," Johncock said. "It's nothing major, but it's amazing how big a difference it makes. It helps me be in a positive frame of mind and if I'm enjoying things down here at the club, it transfers into my private life, which is going along well now."

David Noble’s 2009 review:
“Graham was fantastic and full credit to him. The way he addressed some of the issues the leadership group spoke to him about in terms of his off-field application – not in regards to any social aspect – but in his preparation as a footballer, was great. Unfortunately, Graham lost his mother at the start of the year and for him to be able to perform under that type of pressure throughout the year was just outstanding. He’s been one of our standout performers this year based on those circumstances.”

Career:
Johncock is entering his eighth season at the club after being a late draft pick (No 67) at the 2000 national draft. From Port Lincoln’s Mallee Park Football Club, Johncock played some SANFL football for Port Adelaide Magpies. He was the club’s leading Goalkicker in 2003 with 30 goals but he has spent a majority of his career in defence. In 2005 he led club champion voting half way through the year but broke his leg and missed a large part of the season. The last few years he has been a part of one of the AFL’s best defensive units. In 2008 he represented the Dream Team in the AFL’s 150th year showpiece game.
