Petrenko had a breakout year in his fourth season at West Lakes, playing 15 games and having an impact in the midfield and forward line. The gutsy 21-year-old inspired teammates with his ferocity at the contest and defensive pressure, as evidenced by his performance against the Sydney Swans in round 15, where he laid a career-high eight tackles and kicked a match-defining goal.
David Noble: “Jared is infectious in the way that he plays. He really put it on the line to see whether he could do what he does in the SANFL at AFL level. He went into the midfield at times and attacked the ball and tackled well. We also saw some more flair from him as a forward, which he needs to display. He's exciting for us moving forward.”
