Porplyzia’s 2011 season lasted only five minutes after he dislocated his shoulder in the opening stages of the Crows’ round one clash with Hawthorn. The one-time leading goalkicker worked tirelessly in his recovery from surgery with the aim of returning late in the season, but plans for a comeback were shelved when Adelaide fell out of finals contention. A proven match winner, the classy 27-year-old was a standout over the pre-season and his importance to the young Crows team in 2012 cannot be underestimated.
David Noble: “Porps was severely missed up forward after injuring his shoulder. In 2010, teams started playing tall defenders on him, which means one or two of your other forwards are playing on lesser opponents, so he helps in that way as well as contributing on the scoreboard. He pushed himself unmercifully to get back before the end of the season, but with the way the year unfolded we probably didn't think there was much point in the end. He'll be very determined going into 2012 to make sure it's a solid season for him like the one he had two years ago.”
