Douglas had a frustrating year in 2011 following an interrupted pre-season. The 24-year-old midfielder showed glimpses of his 2010 best and fairest winning form, but struggled to find consistency. He had a standout game against the Brisbane Lions in round 10, amassing a career-best 33 disposals.

David Noble: “Richard couldn't get as much work in over the pre-season as he would've liked and he played catch-up for a fair bit of the year in that sense. He had patches where he was at the level he was at in 2010, but not for any sustained period of time. He's got to go back and recapture the hunger to drive himself back to the level he reached in 2010.”
