2009 season:
After swapping between the ruck and goalsquare in 2008, Tippett occupied a more permanent role in Adelaide’s forward fifty in 2009. He worked hard on his goal kicking accuracy over the pre-season and the results were visible. Tippett finished with 55 goals, only two behind Jason Porplyzia. A haul of seven straight against Essendon in round 11 was the highlight of his season, and he also collected bags of five against Richmond in round 14 and Fremantle in round 15. Tippett’s ability to win the contested ball was one of his biggest assets and he says it is something that comes naturally to him. “I think it is a strength of mine and something I really enjoy doing,” Tippett said. “I enjoy the in-close ball and the challenge of it. That’s what drives me to be good in that area.” Tippett signed a two year extension of his contract in the off-season that will see stay at the club until at least the end of 2012.

“Tippo has really come to terms with the fact that he does have some ability and can contribute to our team. He works really hard on every aspect of his game, particularly his goalkicking. He always listens and always wants to know where and how he can improve. Kurt just adds so much to the forward line with his strong contribution in the air and the other guys just love playing with him.”

Career:
After injury stalled Kurt Tippett in his first year at the club the 200cm Queenslander burst onto the scene in Adelaide’s NAB Cup Final against St Kilda. His four goals nearly stole the game for the Crows and it marked the start of a promising season for the young ruckman/forward, who earned an AFL Rising Star nomination for his four goal effort against Melbourne in Round Eight. The 2008 Emerging Talent winner went on to kick 17 goals from his 19 games in 2008, and after being dropped in Round 17 fought his way back into the side for the Round 22 clash with the Western Bulldogs.
