2009 Season:
During the 2009 pre-season Dangerfield struggled with his fitness base and missed Adelaide’s first few trial games. He regained his place in the side for round one and didn’t look back. In round three he gathered 20 possessions and a goal, earning a NAB Rising Star nomination. He quickly became one of Adelaide’s best contested ball winners and in his 21 games collected 273 disposals, kicked 21 goals and laid 47 tackles. Dangerfield said he wanted to achieve basic goals in his first full year at the club. “I felt better and better each game; you get into it the more you play,” he said. “I just kept it pretty simple this year and made it a week-by-week proposition. I just wanted to try and play as much footy as I could in the ones, play to our structures and play my role in the team.”

David Noble’s 2009 review:
“Patrick’s general intensity at the ball is unique and wherever he played this season we always had some influence from him. What we’re after now is for Patrick to have more influence and to do that he needs to build a bigger fitness base. It was well documented that when Patrick came over last year Craigy thought he was a bit off the mark, so he’ll be looking to have a pretty big summer.”

Career:
Adelaide’s first selection in the 2007 National Draft at pick 10, Dangerfield was a graduate of the AIS-AFL Academy and toured South Africa in early 2007. Dangerfield was a member of the Vic Metro side at the 2007 Under 18 Championships. He was ranked in the top three for both the 30 metre repeat sprints (23.96sec) and the vertical leap (73cm) at the 2007 NAB AFL Draft Camp. After deciding to stay at home in Geelong in 2008 to finish his Year 12 studies, Dangerfield made his surprise debut against Essendon in Round 20, kicking a goal with his first kick in AFL football.
