Aspiring female footballers will be able to give the game a go and meet an Adelaide AFLW Premiership star at the Port Augusta Women’s Football Competition Season Launch.

The event, which is being made possible through the support of the Adelaide Football Club and BHP, will be held at Chinnery Oval, Port Augusta on Sunday, May 15, at 12pm.

Crows dual-Premiership star Eloise Jones will host a skills clinic and share her knowledge with the junior players.

The Port Augusta Women’s Football Competition started in 2020 and has grown year-on-year, with South Whyalla Football Club joining the competition for the first time this season.

A number of players from the program have continued their journey through the AFLW pathway, progressing to SANFLW and training as part of the Crows Girls Academy.

BHP and the Adelaide Football Club will continue to support the competition and will give Jones an opportunity to travel to the region several times during the season to assist with trainings and game days as well as player and club volunteer development.

Jones said she was looking forward to being part of the Season Launch.

“Chelsea (Randall) was involved with the competition last year and said she was really impressed with their skills, so I can’t wait to meet the girls and see what they can do,” Jones said.

“The local clubs are really supportive, and it will be exciting to see heaps of new faces ready for their first season mixed in with the girls who have been there since day one.

“Who knows – maybe I’ll meet one of my future team mates on Sunday.”

New players are welcome across all age groups, including under 11, under 14 and under 17s.
