Adelaide plans to play the first SANFL Showdown at Clare next season as a tribute to a local family.

Six year old Max Redden died in a playground accident late last month and his family has strong ties to the Crows. Dad Tom is the dealer principal of Clare Valley Toyota.

Crows General Manager Football Administration Phil Harper said taking Adelaide’s only SANFL home game to the town would be a fitting way to show respect and support to the family and the local community.

"It was a terrible tragedy, one that certainly touched us all,” Harper said.

“We have had initial discussions with the North Eastern Football League, who are supportive, and we will continue to work with them to make the day a success for all involved.

“This will be the first time our new Crows State League team play the Magpies in the SANFL, so there will be a lot of interest in the first SANFL Showdown."

A date has not been set for the game but it is likely to be in early May. The SANFL program is to be released next month.

Port agreed to the Clare contest and will host the Crows at Alberton Oval later in the season.

Harper said the Club wants to take Adelaide's "home" game against Port to regional areas in future seasons to give something back to community football.

"It will be great for our fans and members, so many of them are from the country,” he said.

“A regular regional game against Port would be very popular and would also financially help junior regional football, which is a great cause."
