Exciting forward Charlie Cameron has accepted the Mark Bickley Award for Emerging Talent at the Crows Club Champion presentation.

Adelaide’s first selection in last year’s Rookie Draft, Cameron made a big impact in his debut season.  The 20-year-old impressed on the track over the summer and was promoted to the Club’s senior list in place of injured captain Nathan van Berlo in May.

He made an electrifying debut against Collingwood at Adelaide Oval in Round Nine. The speedy forward ignited the vocal home crowd with his fierce defensive pressure and evasiveness. He laid five tackles and assisted in two scores with his 13 possessions. Cameron also kicked his first-ever goal, celebrating with mentor and housemate Eddie Betts.

A groin injury limited Cameron to seven AFL games but he showed enough to earn a new two-year contract, which will see him promoted to Adelaide’s senior list for 2015. He finished the year with 24 tackles, six score assists and nine goals, including a career-best three goals in the first half against Fremantle at Patersons Stadium.

It’s been a rapid rise for the cheeky goalkicker, who only started playing football seriously three years ago when his family moved to West Australia from Queensland. Prior to that, the talented baseballer and rugby player had barely even watched a game of Australian Rules on TV.
