A former state soccer and softball player, we get to know the multi-talented Deni Varnhagen

Guernsey number: 9

Twitter: @DeniVarnhagen_9

Instagram: @Denijulia

Nickname: Den or Denis (old footy nicknames some still call me by)

Preferred footy position: Wing

Occupation: Registered Nurse

Best piece of advice you have received: Always be humble, stay true to yourself and never forget where you came from and who helped you to get there

Sporting highlight or greatest achievement to date: Being drafted to the Crows, winning three premierships in a row at Morphettville Park Football Club, getting the most possessions in our latest state game

What’s your brief history in footy:
Started playing footy at Plympton FC in Under-nine with the boys – came 3rd in the association medal count. Captained the Under-11 boys’ side and came 3rd in the association medal count again and took out the best and fairest for the club count. While playing club I also played at Happy Valley Primary School with Dayna Cox. Phil Harper (administrator at the Crows) was our coach for a couple of those years. After that I wasn't able to play any more due to my age. I picked the sport back up at age 16 with the females out at Morphetville and I haven't stopped since

If you weren't a footballer, what would you be doing: I've played state soccer and softball also, so maybe one of those sports? Probably soccer if I had to choose.

Motto you live by: Everything happens for a reason. To live the life you love

If you could ask one person to be your mentor, who would it be: I don't know!

Morning or night person: Both

Preferred timeslot to play matches: Twilight/Evening for sure

Match day superstitions: Always wear white socks under my playing socks

Worst injury you have had: Bone bruising/micro fractures in my right foot

Last text you sent: It was about whether to take protein powder to Bali or not, but I thought taking a large amount of powder in a glad bag might look a bit suspicious through the airport!

What couldn't you live without: My parents and dog

Favourite sport other than footy: I don't watch much other sport, but to play either soccer/softball

Dream travel destination: I've been to Europe so would like to see America next

Tea or coffee: One coffee in the morning then I'm a tea girl for the rest of the day

Savoury or sweet: Savoury, usually would rather two dinners than dinner and dessert

Go to pump up music pre game: Anything I can sing along to, to take my mind off my nerves

Go to meal pre game: Toast and fruit

Favourite movie: Step brothers! Or my childhood favs were Forrest Gump, Titanic and Sandlot Kids

Favourite TV series: Love Wentworth and Family Guy
