New Club, new look

The Bun is Done: Gibbs removes the bun Bryce Gibbs finally chops off the infamous man bun.

Crows recruit Bryce Gibbs delivered on his word on Thursday, saying farewell to his iconic man bun to support two important causes close to his heart.

Flanked by mother Julie, fiancé Lauren and two-year-old son Charlie, the former Glenelg junior lost his impressive locks to raise funds and awareness for the Crows Children’s Foundation and Dementia Australia.

Through the generosity of Gibbs’ friends, family, Crows supporters and the general public, The Bun is Done campaign has raised in excess of $20,000 to date.

“I’ve been overwhelmed with the support and generosity of everyone that’s contributed,” Gibbs said after the haircut.

“Bit of a different look, new season, new Club so I’m very excited.”

Coach Don Pyke and ruckman Sam Jacobs were both given the opportunity to cut off a section of Gibbs’ mane, and remained keen observers as Kym Coombes from The Fellow Barber transformed the new Crow’s look.

“There will be some exciting moments tomorrow morning when I walk into the Club. I think it’s great,” Gibbs said.

“Pykey and Sauce looked like they had a bit of fun with it, and no doubt there will be a bit of banter over the next couple of days, but that’s what we wanted to do.

“We wanted to keep it light-hearted and have fun with it along the way.”

Donations to The Bun is Done will remain open for approximately one week, with Gibbs expressing his gratitude to everyone who has supported the Crows Children’s Foundation and Dementia Australia.

“We’ve done really well, over $20,000 now, and we’re going to keep the line open for another few days so encourage everyone to dip in over the weekend,” he said.

“Even if it’s 50 cents, a hundred bucks, whatever they can spare to keep that total going north that would be fantastic.”
