The Adelaide Football Club condemns a racist comment directed towards Eddie Betts and posted on social media on the weekend.

The discriminatory comment was made on an Instagram post by a Perth-based AFL fan following the Club’s loss to Fremantle.

Adelaide’s newly appointed Indigenous Liaison Officer Jeremy Johncock said it was extremely disappointing and frustrating that this kind of behaviour still exists in our game and the broader community.

Johncock added there is a need for ongoing awareness and educational programs around racism.

“Our entire Club is committed to continuing to educate the broader community to promote a deeper respect and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and stamp out racial behaviour,” he said.

“If this means we need to educate one person at a time so be it.

“For our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players in particular, any form of racist behaviour is extremely damaging and hurtful to them, their families and communities.”
