Adelaide is playing a more exciting brand of footy following the mid-season break after shaking off the stigma and expectation of making the Grand Final again, according to Hugh Greenwood.

The Tasmanian starred in his new role up forward with four goals in the five-point win over Brisbane, and he believes the Club is in a much more positive space following three wins in four weeks.

“We were so caught up with trying to make the grand final that we were just forgetting about the steps it took to get there,” Greenwood said.

“Now we’re just focusing on one game at a time and getting to finals.

“It’s fun, it’s exciting, we’re not as stressed and it’s reflecting in our brand of footy.

“When you win games of footy the whole morale of the footy club changes.

“We’re in a really good space at the moment and we’re really pumped moving forward.”

Sporting his own fresh haircut, Greenwood was a gamechanger against the Lions, quickly finding his groove alongside experienced forwards.

“I feel I do my best work inside so I’m embracing the role as playing forward and trying to bring some the strengths I bring to the midfield to the forward line,” Greenwood said.

“JJ [Josh Jenkins], the Gov [Mitch McGovern], Eddie [Betts], those guys were just telling me to keep going deep forward and I’m like that’s you guys.”

Kicking three goals in just over three minutes in the first half, Greenwood was arguably the difference as Adelaide fought against Brisbane with just two on the bench following concussions to Tom Doedee and Lachlan Murphy.

“We were tested with the two guys that went down so the second half resilience of the group was awesome,” Greenwood said.

“Whenever you lose one guy you notice it.

“Especially guys like Doedee who’s our guy that intercepts it off half-back and rebounds it back for us and then Murph who’s come in the last couple of weeks, his pressure in the forward line’s been second to none.

“They came at us, they really came at us hard in that last quarter but we held on and kept our composure when we needed to and we’re excited about it.”

While the loss of the talented duo was a worry, Greenwood says the players have been celebrating the return of every player from early-season injuries and they are looking forward to more returns over the next few weeks.

“When Gov was named, just having him back in the side, the boys love it,” he said.

“We got guys coming back that we’re looking forward to having; Dougy [Richard Douglas] will be back hopefully soon, we’ll hopefully get Harto [Kyle Hartigan] back again.
