Adelaide winger Paul Seedsman has been ruled out of Saturday's Showdown 45 with Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval with a hamstring strain, but the Crows will regain young defender Tom Doedee from concussion.

Veterans Richard Douglas (ankle) and David Mackay (rib) will also be assessed this week.

Seedsman injured his left hamstring in the first quarter of last weekend's 13-point loss to Melbourne.

"He had scans and there's a slight hamstring strain," Crows assistant coach Josh Francou told reporters on Monday.

"He's obviously been assessed by the medical staff, he wouldn't be available this week, fingers crossed it's only one (game).

"We're hoping Dougie will be available and Tom Doedee will definitely be available. David Mackay will be around the mark as well."

Doedee – one of the leading contenders for the NAB AFL Rising Star award – missed the loss to the Demons after failing to recover in time from a concussion suffered in the previous week's win against Brisbane at the Gabba.

Half-back flanker Brodie Smith could make his return to the AFL after two strong games in the SANFL.

Smith was sidelined for 10 months after rupturing his ACL in last year's qualifying final against Greater Western Sydney.

Midfielders Patrick Wilson and Cam Ellis-Yolmen are also pushing their claims after 42 and 41 disposals respectively in the Crows' SANFL loss to North Adelaide on the weekend.

The Crows (9-9) are two wins outside the top eight and will most likely need other results to go their way to make the finals.

Francou – who won three Showdown Medals during his Port Adelaide playing career – said form counted for little heading into a Showdown, with the ledger squared 22-22.

"When you talk Showdown week, and having been involved in lots of Showdowns myself, it's a game where the previous week doesn't matter," Francou said.

"They're big games, big occasions, big for the state, big for the supporters, it's a big game for both clubs."
