Switching from cricket to AFL was not an easy transition for defender Alex Keath.

“It was difficult the first couple of seasons, just recovering from games and getting used to the physical side,” Keath told The Crows Show, brought to you by Optus.

“I had a few impact injuries as my body got used to the rigours of AFL footy again.”

Keath was picked up by the Crows ahead of the 2016 season following a short stint with the Adelaide Strikers.

Although he does miss playing, Keath said there was plenty of cricket chat among the players.

“There are a lot of guys in the dressing room that love cricket,” he said.

“The Crouch boys, Paul Seedsman, Tom Lynch is the number one ticket holder at the Victoria Bush Rangers if you ask him, he’s always watching the live stream on his phone.”

Keath has enjoyed a strong start to the 2019 season and drawn the praise of defensive coach Marty Mattner.

“Alex has had a great pre-season, which sets you up for a good year,” Mattner said.

“He still gets those tall forwards, but his ability to help Talia coming off third man, he’s been able to do that regularly in games this season.

“He still has to keep working on some things and be that really lock-down defender as well.”
