AFL fixture 2020: Crows' draw revealed

Adelaide will host games across a range of timeslots in 2020 after the official Toyota AFL Premiership Season fixture was released on Thursday.

The Crows will begin next season at home with new Senior Coach Matthew Nicks facing the club he played for, Sydney, on Saturday, March 21.

A range of timeslots

Adelaide’s home games in 2020 are spread across prime-time, afternoon and twilight timeslots in a fan-friendly fixture.

The Crows will host one Thursday night game, two Friday night games, one Saturday afternoon game, three Saturday twilight games, one Saturday night game, one Sunday afternoon game and two Sunday twilight games.

Crows CEO Andrew Fagan said the schedule would once again ensure big crowds at Adelaide Oval.

“The 2020 fixture is a good one for our fans,” Fagan said.

“We’ve got some big Victorian clubs coming including the reigning premiers, Richmond.

“From a football perspective, the impacts of travel including the number of six-day breaks are similar to previous years which is fine by us.

“We recognise that given we finished mid-ladder last year, we were unlikely to have all of our requests fulfilled but overall we think from a fan, football and commercial perspective, the fixture is good one.”

Big Victorian clubs at Adelaide Oval

In May, Adelaide will host Carlton for just the second time in 10 years.

The Blues will travel to Adelaide Oval for the Sir Doug Nicholls Round clash, which has become a momentous event in the Crows’ annual fixture.

What adds to the spectacle will be the likely presence of small forward Eddie Betts, who will pull on the navy blue after a trade to Ikon Park earlier in October.

Essendon (Round 5) and Richmond (Round 20) will again play in Adelaide in 2020.

An additional game in Melbourne

Adelaide will again travel to Victoria on five occasions in 2020, but four of those games will be in metropolitan Melbourne next season.

The Club’s first visit across the border will see the Crows take on reigning premier Richmond in a Saturday afternoon clash at the MCG in Round Four.

St Kilda will host Adelaide in Round Six at Marvel Stadium and then return to the MCG after the mid-season bye for a Sunday afternoon clash with Collingwood in Round 15.

Adelaide will then play Essendon in Round 19 at Marvel Stadium before closing out the home and away season in Geelong, facing former Crows Patrick Dangerfield and Josh Jenkins at GMHBA in Round 23.

“It was an important part of our fixture request to redress an issue from last season,” Fagan said.

“I’m pleased we have four games in Melbourne, greater access to the MCG and a game at Geelong which is an improved result for our Victorian fans.”
