A dashing winger and a talented athlete, Varnhagen excelled through junior ranks with Happy Valley and Plympton. She captained the boys Under 11s side and finished third in the League’s best and fairest count. Varnhagen had stints playing soccer and softball, representing South Australia in both sports, before resuming her football career with Morphettville and playing a key role in three SAWFL premierships. Skilful on both sides of the body, Adelaide swooped on Varnhagen with pick No.26 in the 2016 AFL Women’s Draft. Off the field, she is a nurse at the Queen Elizabeth.
