Recruited from: WNBA (Basketball)
AFLW Best & Fairest votes: 36

Erin Phillips returned home to South Australia in 2016 to add AFLW footballer to her long list of sporting achievements. The two-time WNBA champion and Olympic basketballer made an equally successful transition to football, setting the standards as Adelaide’s co-captain. In the inaugural season, she claimed the NAB AFLW best and fairest, AFL Players’ Association MVP and the Crows’ club champion award. Despite battling injury in 2018, she was Adelaide’s joint leading goalkicker. The prolific ball-winner was integral in the Crows’ premiership triumph, named best on ground. During the 2018 off-season, she returned to the US with wife Tracy and their twins to fill the role of assistant coach of the Dallas Wings in the WNBA, where she played back in 2016.

Season by Season

Season by Season

Phillips was Adelaide’s equal leading goal kicker in 2018 despite an injury-interrupted season. It was a delayed start for Phillips as she missed the first two games but her return was worth the wait. In Round Three, she kicked four goals, including a miraculous one from the boundary in the final quarter, leading Adelaide to a thrilling win. She ended up kicking seven goals in five games and continued to set the standards with her skills, hard work and professionalism.

Season by Season

Swept the awards after an individually brilliant season. The dominant player of the competition, Phillips played a key role in the Crows’ premiership win. Willed her team to victory with match-winning goals against Collingwood and Carlton (the latter of which was crowned Goal of the Year) and was best on ground in the Grand Final. Her remarkable season was recognised with the AFLW Best and Fairest, AFL Players’ Association MVP and Crows Club Champion award, as well as All Australian selection. As co-captain, helped set the standards for hard work and professionalism at the Crows.
