Missed more than two months with a hamstring injury early in the 2017 season, but showed his importance to the Adelaide forward line upon his return. McGovern kicked 20 goals from 13 games equaling his career-high of four goals twice including the Round 19 clash with Collingwood where he goaled after the siren to draw the game. A strong contested mark and elite pressure player, McGovern is an exciting talent with enormous upside.

Season by Season

One of the success stories of 2016. Made his AFL debut in Round One against North Melbourne after a string of impressive pre-season performances and played all but one game for the year. McGovern became an important part of the highest scoring forward line in the competition. His impressive vertical leap, vice-like hands and neat skills made him a tough match-up for opponents. Kicked 32 goals for the season including a four-goal effort in the Club’s big Round 19 win against Essendon. Was also third at the Club for contested marks (28), only behind experienced duo Taylor Walker and Josh Jenkins.

Season by Season

Injuries disrupted much of McGovern's first year at the Club. Forced to wait until Round Five for his SANFL debut, the athletic forward showed plenty of promise in his first few games showcasing his impressive vertical leap and classy skills. Injury concerns continued to linger however, but he was able to play out the last five SANFL games of the season. McGovern kicked 15 goals from 11 State League games including a four-goal effort against defending premiers Norwood.

Season by Season

Recruited with pick No.43 in the 2014 AFL National Draft, McGovern is an athletic and high-marking forward with excellent foot skills on either side of his body. His vertical leap is a real asset, particularly on the lead, making it difficult for opposition defenders to spoil. McGovern finished top 10 in the vertical leap and kicking tests at the Draft Combine. From North Albany in West Australia, McGovern is the younger brother of West Coast forward, Jeremy.
