The veteran continued to set the standard for Adelaide’s emerging midfield brigade. Renown for his professionalism and durability, Thompson played 22 of a possible 24 matches averaging 24 disposals a game. Led the Club in both clearances (129) and centre clearances (52) and finished second in tackles (158). Thompson became just the 76th player in VFL/AFL history to play 300 games in Round 17 against Collingwood. Will play on for a 17th season after signing a one-year contract extension. Retained in Adelaide's six-man leadership group for 2017.

Despite an injury-interrupted pre-season, Thompson maintained his status as one of the elite inside midfielders of the competition in 2015. The evergreen onballer averaged 26.7 possessions, seven clearances and six tackles. He won the Phillip Walsh Medal for best on ground in Adelaide’s emotional Round 16 Showdown win, and finished seventh in the Crows Club Champion award despite missing the opening two games. Signed a one-year contract extension and is on track to join the illustrious group of players to reach 300 career AFL games. Part of Adelaide's seven-man leadership group for 2016.

The two-time best-and-fairest winner continued to play a leading role in the Crows midfield in 2014. The durable Crow’s streak of 99 consecutive games came to an end in Round 20 as a result of a nagging back-related hamstring injury. Despite missing or being substituted out of a handful of matches, Thompson ranked third at the Club in total possessions (519) and also contested possessions (224). He was second at Adelaide and top-20 in the AFL in clearances (118), and third in tackles (86). Led the Crows Club Champion count prior to his hamstring injury and finished sixth overall. Celebrated his 250th AFL game against Greater Western Sydney in Round Five. A member of the six-man leadership group for Season 2015.

The two-time Crows Club Champion showed great resilience to play every game in 2013. Whilst below his All-Australian best of 2012, Thompson still led Adelaide in total disposals (543), clearances (111), tackles (108) and handball receives (191). He also ranked ninth in the AFL in contested possessions (263). The consistent onballer finished the season on a high, racking up 33 disposals in his last two games. Signed a contract extension, which will see him finish his career a Crow.

The 2011 Crows Club Champion enjoyed another superb season in 2012. Thompson ranked fourth in the AFL for total disposals (651), third in contested possessions (319) and second in clearances (158). He received external recognition for the first time in his brilliant career, named the ruck-rover of the All-Australian team and finishing equal-fourth in the Brownlow Medal with a Club-record 26 votes.

The consistent onballer took his game to another level in 2011, winning the Crows Club Champion award in a landslide and being included in the initial All-Australian squad. The prolific ball winner averaged 31 possessions, ranking second in the competition for total disposals and 10th in clearances. Thompson racked up a record-breaking 51 disposals against Gold Coast in Round 22 - the second-most disposals in AFL history.
