Adelaide forward Ashleigh Woodland has booted eight goals in two games - the most of any AFLW player so far this season.

For superstar midfielder Anne Hatchard, the return is no surprise.

“I played at the North Adelaide Roosters with her so I knew she had this in her,” Hatchard said on Monday.

“To see her come out with two four-goal performances is just insane.”

Adelaide claimed a 13-point win over North Melbourne on Sunday, despite a late comeback from the Kangaroos.

With a two-from-two record so far, Hatchard said the team was excited about what it could produce in 2022.

“Coming out and beating Brisbane and then knocking off North, it’s exciting,” Hatchard said.

“I love coming up against a challenge. Going into the game (against North Melbourne), we knew they were one of the best midfields in the competition.

“I love the contest and just want a challenge every single week.”

Hatchard finished the game against the Kangaroos with 29 touches and 14 marks to claim a perfect 10 coaches’ votes.

She credits the team’s - and her - strong start to an intense pre-season.

“We had a tough preseason, pushed harder than we ever had,” she said.

“Coming into these two rounds I think it shows how strong we are as a unit. I think we have a good chance this year.”
