Adelaide veteran Brodie Smith has had hundreds of teammates come and go throughout his 15-year career at West Lakes.
But when it comes to choosing a favourite from the journey, third year Crow Max Michalanney is quickly rocketing up the rankings.
Joining Thomo on last week’s episode of Crows Chat on Triple M, the duo were chatting about Michalanney’s strong form to start season 2025.
Smith gave an insight into the young star’s development, and the respect he had drawn from his teammates in his short time at the Club.
“It’s good to hear (Max getting some love) and I agree with everything that was said there, he’s put in so much work,” Smith said.
“Across his career so far I think he’s played 52 out of possible 53 games, so it’s pretty incredible the way he goes about it.
“I’d say he’s one of the best teammates I’ve had in terms of off field and on field (how he carries himself), he’s just happy to play his role.
“He’s not a guy that is necessarily out there wanting to have 30 and kick a few goals, he just wants to play his role, shut down his opponent and help those around him get better. It’s pretty incredible for a young guy to be honest.”
Looking ahead, Smith saw great potential in his young teammate’s ability to become a leader of the Club.
He said the energy he brought to the group was a key quality that drew respect from the entire Club.
“I think I might have slipped a vote in for him for the leadership group this year, he’s certainly coming along in that space,” Smith said.
“It (leadership) is something he would have to embrace, as he’s naturally such a great leader and so loved among everyone at the footy Club.
“Just the energy he brings on game day, if you hit a good kick you can hear him screaming at you saying how good was that.
“The leadership stuff will continue to develop into the future as he plays more games and I can’t wait to see what his career brings, it’s going to be massive.”
Crows Chat airs on Triple M Adelaide every Sunday at 9am.
