Our members and fans are the heartbeat of the Club, and we wouldn’t be here without you. We love getting to know the people who make the Crows community so special.

Last week, we met passionate supporter Jessica Steele, who was captured celebrating Skipper Jordan Dawson’s goal against Carlton while holding her son, Walker - named after veteran Taylor Walker.

That got us wondering; have you ever named a child or pet after a Crow? We had countless Tex, Rorys and Eddies, but here are some of our favourites.

  • Mickey named one of his chickens Eggy Betts, after former Crow Eddie Betts.
  • Nick once had a ferret called Bunji, after McLeod, and a chicken called Eggony Marinoff after AFLW Co-Captain Ebony Marinoff.

  • Gill’s dad’s cockatiel is called Sarge, after Ian Perry.
  • Lauren named her cat, who was found as a kitten inside Footy Park, Lippy after Matthew Liptak.

  • Josie named her son Rhett after Rhett Biglands, after he “came out as a big nine-pound ruck” - that was despite her husband being a Bombers fan.

  • Georgina and her partner (who is a Swans supporter) named their cat Marty Cattner, after Marty Mattner.

  • Jayne’s Siamese fighting fish, which happened to be red and blue, with a touch of gold, Roo, after Mark Ricciuto.

  • Gina named her son Jarman, who was born just after the 1998 Grand Final, after Darren Jarman.

  • Paul named his long neck turtles Macca Bunji McLeod and Rupert Ricciuto - a tribute to Andrew McLeod and Mark Ricciuto.

  • Mark had two sheep - one named Blight, and the other Patsy - after two-time Premiership coach Malcolm Blight and his wife.

  • Melissa named her bird Modra, after Tony Modra, but soon discovered the bird was a girl, so changed the name to Mondrina.

  • Naming pets and children Tex, after Crows veteran Taylor Walker, was widely popular. Kerry-Anne’s mum named her dog Tex, Dave called his dog Tex, as did Danielle. Kayleigh named her son Tex, while Mel’s son is Walker. Franca called her pet turtle Tex, while Christina’s cat is also Tex.

  • Leanne named her twins Andrew and Darren, a nod to brothers Andrew and Darren Jarman.

  • Inspired by Rory Sloane, many fans named their pets and sons after the former Skipper. Kelly’s son is called Rory, as is Kiara’s, and Sarah’s. Sarah’s son Rory was due on Grand Final day in 2017 but he arrived three weeks early. Jess called her dog Rory, as did Gail’s mum and Sue.

  • Zan’s two sons’ middle names are after Crows players - the first McLeod after Andrew McLeod, the second is Kane, inspired by Kane Johnson.
