The son of a 300-game SANFL star will make his league debut for the new Crows SANFL team when it plays its first game on Sunday.

Crows development recruit Will Paynter – a son of Jack, who played 322 games for Glenelg and Sturt – has held his spot in Adelaide’s side after some impressive trial game form.

The 21-year-old joined Adelaide’s development program from Adelaide University late last year and will be one of up to five development players in the 21 to meet North Adelaide at Prospect Oval from 2.10pm on Sunday. Former AIS Academy squad members Tyson Davis-Neale and Matt Thompson, Adelaide Uni’s George Hurley-Wellington and Mypolonga goalsneak Gene Robinson join Paynter in the squad.

Draftee Riley Knight, Sam Siggins and Crows rookies Alex Spina, Charlie Cameron and Jake Kelly will also make their SANFL league debuts on Sunday.

Adelaide’s emergencies for Saturday’s AFL game against Sydney – Brodie Martin, Jason Porplyzia and Sam Shaw – were all named in the SANFL side and will play if not required at AFL level.

The Crows SANFL side also includes Lewis Johnston, who played in last Saturday’s Showdown against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval and will now line up against his original SANFL club.

Crows members receive free entry to all of Adelaide’s SANFL games this season.
