ADELAIDE coach Mark Bickley believes players outside Victoria are generally under-appreciated, but Scott Thompson's amazing 51-disposal effort against Gold Coast will have All Australian selectors across the country taking notice.

The Adelaide coach said Thompson’s performance in the Crows’ win against Gold Coast was indicative of the season he has had in 2011.

"I think you will find Scott is averaging in the top handful of players in the AFL and he would have to be serious contention for All Australian," Bickley said.

"Obviously it is really tough as a midfielder to get in there but his consistency and the level he has performed at, he has been outstanding for us."

Bickley said Thompson was one of a handful of underrated interstate players.

"I think that happens with most of the interstate players - because you are a little bit away [from Victoria] you are a little bit out from under the eye but we certainly don’t underrate, he has led superbly from the front all year and today was just another example," he said.

Thompson was not the only player to receive praise from Bickley, who also credited Sam Jacobs (47 hit outs) and Patrick Dangerfield (10 clearances, 10 tackles) with helping the Crows recover from a Gold Coast fightback in the second and third quarters.

The Crows coach said he was happy with the team’s ability to shake off a "holiday" mentality and finish off the Suns, who had trailed Adelaide by 44 points at quarter time, before getting within 20 later in the game.

"There is a tendency to think you are on holidays, and I was really rapt with the maturity of the guys in terms of being able to come here, prepare correctly, do the job and get the start we wanted," he said.

"We just got a little bit cute [in the second and third quarters], we over possessed the ball and got away from what we were doing in the first quarter.

"Three-quarter time was a chance to regroup and I am really happy with how they responded."
