Forward Lewis Johnston will miss six weeks after injuring his hand at training last week.

Johnston, 23, will have surgery in the coming days to repair a damaged tendon in his left hand.

The news is better for defender Matthew Jaensch.

Jaensch was suspected to have fractured ribs after suffering a heavy knock against Melbourne 10 days ago. However, subsequent scans have cleared Jaensch of any break. He's recovering well and remains a chance to play against Collingwood on Thursday night.

Goalkickers Jason Porplyzia (back) and SANFL captain Ian Callinan (hamstring) are expected to return from their respective injuries this week. Rookie-listed ruckman Jack Osborn (back) hopes to play in the State League next weekend, while Brad Crouch should return within a fortnight.

Tom Lynch is recovering from surgery on a broken jaw, which will see him sidelined for 4-6 weeks.

The Crows will have an open training session from 10:30am at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday. The session will run approximately one hour.
