Crows Sam Jacobs and Eddie Betts polled coaches votes against former club Carlton on Sunday.

Jacobs, 26, was adjudged to be Adelaide’s best player in the five-point loss to the Blues. For the fourth time this season, the in-form ruckman racked up in excess of 20 disposals (23). Playing a lone hand in the ruck, Jacobs won 38 hit-outs and generated inside six inside 50ms. The strong performance earned the hard-working Crow four votes from Brenton Sanderson and Mick Malthouse.

Betts collected three votes in his first game against Carlton. The lively forward equalled his best return as a Crow, slotting 4.1. Betts also laid four tackles, including one on Zac Tuohy to set up his first goal of the game in the second quarter.

Gutsy utility Rory Laird (two) was the other Crow to attract votes. Laird was resilient across half back, collecting 28 possessions and two clearances. He also took a team-high 10 marks, including several timely grabs in defence.

Carlton veteran Kade Simpson scored a perfect 10 for his dominant display, which included a game-high 37 possessions, 11 marks, five clearances and a goal. The skilful Chris Yarran, who played across half back, earned six votes. Two South Australians, Bryce Gibbs (four) and Troy Menzel (one), rounded out the coaches votes at the MCG on Sunday.

Despite not polling a vote for the first time in five weeks, Patrick Dangerfield (32 votes) remains in the top 10 of the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year award.  Gold Coast skipper Gary Ablett is on top with 55 votes, but Collingwood star Scott Pendlebury (48) made ground on the dual-Brownlow Medallist, who didn’t poll a vote last weekend, with nine votes against West Coast.
