Recruits Kyle Cheney and Luke Lowden will wear familiar numbers for Adelaide next season.

Cheney, who donned No.13 for Hawthorn, will return to the No.25, which he wore at Melbourne.

The number became available at West Lakes for the first time in 13 years following the retirement of All-Australian defender Ben Rutten at the end of the season. Rutten wore the No.25 in 229 games for the Crows. Only three players, Rutten, inaugural Club Champion Mark Mickan and forward Bryan Beinke, have worn No.25 in an official game for Adelaide.

Cheney will be in good company in the locker room alongside Sam Jacobs and Richard Douglas.

Lowden has moved into locker No.40 most recently owned by fan favourite Jason Porplyzia. Porplyzia also retired at the end of the season after 130 games, all in the No.40. Lowden will be aiming to become the fifth player to wear No.40 for the Crows following Porplyzia, Stephen Schwerdt, Sudjai Cook and forward Chris Ladhams.

Lowden’s new locker is next door to young onballer Riley Knight. It’s likely he’ll have to wait until the Rookie Draft to meet his neighbour in No.41, which has been vacated by defender Kyle Hartigan. Hartigan was one of three young Crows to change numbers ahead of Season 2015.

The remaining vacant numbers are 6, 35, 38, 41, 42, 43 and 46. These numbers will be assigned to Adelaide's new draftees and rookies in the coming weeks. The AFL National Draft will be held on the Gold Coast on Thursday, November 27, while the Pre-Season and Rookie Drafts are set for Wednesday, December 3.
