The Crows have selected key defender Jake Lever with pick No.14 in the 2015 AFL National Draft.

Lever, 18, is a competitive and aggressive backman, who hates getting beaten. The 193cm, 84kg, tall can shut down an opponent while also providing good rebound. He has a strong work rate, excellent leadership skills and reads the game well

He missed the entire 2014 season after suffering ACL injury training with the AIS-AFL Academy last December, but impressed with his professionalism in his approach to rehabilitation. He took up coaching roles with Vic Metro and the TAC Cup team, the Calder Cannons, and was there at every game and training session completing his training on the side.

Lever is back at full fitness, and earlier this month tested at the NAB AFL Draft Combine, running 3.19 in the 20-metre sprint and 10:32 for the three-kilometre time trial.

Calder Cannons Talent Manager, Ian Kyte says:

"Jake had his knee reconstructed in December. He's back in training now and he'll be ready to go when he gets to a club. Had he played this year he would possibly have been the No. 1 selection.

“He's a tall, aggressive, competitive key defender who's a really good leader. He might have even spent some time in the midfield this year had he been able to play. His leadership qualities have improved this year even though he hasn't been able to play and he hasn't missed a beat with his recovery.

“He does everything right, to the point we had to force him to take a break at times."
