A former Crow looms as a key player for West Adelaide in Friday night’s SANFL game against Adelaide at Richmond.

Jason Porplyzia, who retired from the AFL last year after 130 games for Adelaide, chose to continue playing with his original SANFL club this year and helped guide West to a six-point win over the Eagles last Saturday.

West, coached by 1991 Crows club champion Mark Mickan, kicked eight consecutive goals against the Eagles at Woodville after trailing by 30 points during the third term.

Porplyzia kicked three goals from 14 possessions and along with former Power ruckman/forward Ryan Willets adds experience to a young side captained by former Crow Chris Schmidt.

Adelaide showed promise in its opening round clash with North Adelaide, losing by three points after leading for most of the game.

Nine Crows made their SANFL league debut – Reilly O’Brien, Jake Lever, Keenan Ramsey, Harrison Wigg, Harry Dear and development players Matt Spencely, Josh Wittwer, Dylan Schoenmakers and Jake Sutcliffe.

Another four development players – Charlie Molyneux, Matt Stent, Justin Smart and Sam Pfeiffer – have had limited exposure at league level.

Dear, drafted by the Crows last November, will be unavailable after injuring a shoulder in the game against North.

Friday night’s game against West starts at 7.10pm.

Crows ticketed members have free entry to Adelaide’s minor round SANFL games.
