The SANFL will launch South Australia’s first-ever State League junior girls competition next month.

Beginning in late August, the new competition will include all eight non-AFL aligned SANFL clubs who will enter teams in U14 and U16 age groups.

The competition will run across a four-week period and will include three minor rounds and a Grand Final in mid-September.

A system splitting clubs into Northern and Southern conferences of four teams will be used, with all games to be played at SANFL sanctioned venues.

The Northern conference will include Norwood, North Adelaide, Central District and Woodville-West Torrens while the Southern conference will incorporate Glenelg, Sturt, South Adelaide and West Adelaide.

The SANFL hopes the competitions will encourage female participation in the sport and boost the depth of talent in selecting junior State squads.

The League has already received over 100 registrations of interest, with many more applications expected in the coming weeks.

The SANFL will hold various ‘Come and Try’ sessions to encourage young girls to get involved.

The competition will kick off on the weekend of August 22. The official fixture will be released in the coming weeks by the SANFL.
