Midfielder Scott Thompson will play on for a 16th AFL season after signing a new one-year deal.

An All Australian and two-time Crows Club Champion, Thompson has carried on his consistent form in 2015. The reliable 32-year-old has played 18 games, averaging 27 possessions and six tackles.

He ranks sixth in the AFL in both contested possessions and clearances (on average). Thompson won the Phillip Walsh Medal for best on ground in Adelaide’s Round 16 Showdown win.

The prolific ball winner has played 282 career games including 243 with the Crows. He played 39 games for Melbourne before returning to South Australia ahead of the 2005 season.

The Adelaide Football Club Life Member said he was pleased to be continuing his career with the Crows.

“There’s a real sense of enthusiasm and determination among our playing group,” Thompson said.

“It’s really exciting for our Club and our supporters to be back in the finals this season, and I’m committed to helping this team achieve success.

“I feel I still have a lot to contribute not just on game day, but also in mentoring our younger players coming through.”

Crows Head of Football David Noble said Thompson was a respected leader at West Lakes.

“Scott epitomises the elite standards that we value as a Club,” Noble said.

“He works extremely hard on and off the football field, which is reflected in his consistency of performance over a long period of time, and is an excellent role model for our emerging midfielders.”

Thompson follows Rory Sloane, Sam Jacobs, Richard Douglas, Rory Laird, Luke Brown, Jake Lever, Charlie Cameron, Jake Kelly, Riley Knight, Kyle Hartigan, Tom Lynch and Reilly O’Brien in signing on with the Club this season
