Adelaide has secured Collingwood defender Paul Seedsman as part of a multi-club deal.

Seedsman, 23, heads to West Lakes with the Crows giving up a second-round draft pick (No.32) in a trade involving the Magpies, Melbourne and Port Adelaide.

The quick and skilful half-back/wingman has played 49 AFL games since making his debut for the Magpies in Round One, 2012.

He made a strong start to the 2015 season playing 10 of Collingwood's first 12 games, most notably winning the Anzac Medal for his 31-possession, best-on-ground performance against Essendon in Round Four.

Seedsman said he was excited about the opportunity to continue his career with Adelaide.

“In talking with Don Pyke and visiting the Club, I’m really impressed with the Crows and their direction,” Seedsman said.

“I feel like this is the right environment for me to improve and also be part of team success, which is what we all play for.

“Growing up as a Collingwood fan, I loved my five years at the Pies and I thank them for giving me my first opportunity to play AFL football.”

Head of Football David Noble said the 190cm, 87kg, recruit was an excellent fit for the Crows under new Senior Coach Pyke, who demands versatility in his players.

“We identified Paul as a young man who could really add value to our group, so we’re thrilled that he’s chosen to join our Club,” Noble said.

“Paul’s a good size. He has a penetrating kick and loves to take the game on. He also showed earlier in the year that he can stand up on the big stage.

“Importantly, Paul wants to get better and we think he can develop into a consistent and damaging player for our Club for many years to come.”

Recruited from Eastern Ranges Under-18s, Seedsman was originally selected by Collingwood with pick No.76 in the 2010 National Draft.

The complex four-way trade lodged with the AFL on Monday also involves Jeremy Howe moving to the Magpies, Jimmy Toumpas joining Port Adelaide and another South Australian, Ben Kennedy, switching from the Pies to Melbourne, as well as some picks changing hands.

What each club receives:
ADELAIDE: Paul Seedsman (Collingwood)
MELBOURNE: Ben Kennedy (Collingwood), picks 29 & 50 (from Port Adelaide)
COLLINGWOOD: Jeremy Howe (Melbourne), pick 68 (from Port Adelaide)
