Adelaide has added speed and strength with its two first-round selections at this year’s AFL National Draft.

The Crows secured Central District livewire Wayne Milera with the Club’s first selection at pick No.11.

The classy 18-year-old made his SANFL debut this season and played 11 games with the Bulldogs, including two finals. Milera brings pace and class to Adelaide’s list as a dangerous forward capable of playing in the midfield. The 183cm, 77kg speedster kicked five goals against Glenelg in just his eighth game of senior football. Milera also played all six games for South Australia at this year’s U18 National Championships.

The Club swooped on Geelong Falcons tall Tom Doedee with its second selection at No.17.

A strong-marking defender, Doedee represented Victoria Country at the U18 National Championships. The 187cm, 83kg teen was a standout junior basketballer before switching codes and joining the Falcons this year. He played 13 games averaging 12 disposals, four marks and three rebound 50ms standing both tall and small opponents.

Adelaide originally entered the draft armed with picks 9 and 13, however many picks fell down the order due to the AFL’s new points bidding system. A number of Academy players were claimed by their host clubs in the first round.

Adelaide initially placed a bid for GWS Academy player Harrison Himmelberg at pick No.16, however it was matched by Greater Western Sydney.

Although not part of the official draft order, Adelaide filled the remaining spot on its senior list by promoting rookie Jake Kelly.

Kelly, 20, was elevated from the rookie list ahead of his AFL debut against Melbourne in Round Three this year. The disciplined defender played 10 straight games and was rewarded with a new two-year deal. He was originally recruited with pick No.40 in the Rookie Draft of December, 2013.
