Sam Shaw is completing a modified training program as he builds towards a return to playing.

The Crows have taken an ultra-conservative approach with Shaw following a concussion sustained in the opening rounds of the SANFL season.

The defender has experienced prolonged symptoms, which don’t affect his everyday life, but can cause him to feel lethargic when he participates in rigorous exercise.

Shaw hasn’t played since Round Three and will need to regain fitness at training over a period of time before he’s ready to play again.

Head of Football David Noble said the Club’s careful management of Shaw was reflective of a more cautious approach to concussion throughout the AFL.

“It’s frustrating for Sam. He wants to be out there playing, but his health is the number one priority,” Noble said.

“We have access to more information than ever before and I think that has contributed to clubs being smarter with active management programs for concussion.

“We’ll continue to work with Sam and help him build up towards playing when he’s absolutely ready.”
