Courageous midfielder Rory Sloane has finished runner-up in the AFL Coaches Association Player of the Year award.

Sloane, who led the AFLCA voting between Rounds 15-17, retained second place in the count despite missing the final game due to the suspension.

The 26-year-old finished 28 votes adrift of former teammate Patrick Dangerfield, who won the award with 121 votes after claiming the overall lead from Sloane in Round 18.

Richmond midfielder Dustin Martin (90 votes) and Western Bulldogs star Marcus Bontempelli (88) were rewarded for outstanding seasons with top-four finishes.

The Sydney Swans had three midfielders in the top 10, with Luke Parker (86), last year's winner Dan Hannebery (83) and Josh Kennedy (69) backing up their selections in the 40-man All Australian squad.

Geelong captain Joel Selwood (86 votes) and West Coast midfielder Luke Shuey (82) held on to top-10 placings in the final two rounds.

Eddie Betts was the next-best Crow behind Sloane, polling 67 votes after receiving a perfect 10 for his match-winning five-goal haul in Showdown XLI.

Six Crows in All Australian squad

Showdown Medallist Matt Crouch received three votes for his 33-possession performance to move him to 20 votes overall – equal with older brother Brad for the 2016 season.

All Australian nominee Rory Laird attracted two votes from Don Pyke and Ken Hinkley, while Jarryd Lyons received one vote.

Dynamic forward Mitch McGovern also received his first AFLCA vote in Showdown XLI.

No Crows polled in Adelaide’s loss to West Coast in the final round. Eagles midfielder Andrew Gaff was unanimously adjudged best afield by both coaches.
