Eddie Betts has been rewarded for a brilliant season with a spot in AFL Media’s Team of the Year.

Betts booted a career-best 66 goals in the home and away season to finish equal-third in the Coleman Medal race. The 29-year-old kicked five goals or more in six games this season, including a six-goal haul against Fremantle in Round 21, and was held goalless on only two occasions.

The gun goalkicker was also among the most unselfish forwards in the competition this season, ranking sixth in the AFL for goal assists and seventh for score involvements.

Without the ball, Betts was just as dangerous. He was second in the League for forward 50m tackles and laid a total of 79 tackles for the year.

Betts claimed a forward pocket in the AFL’s Team of the Year alongside key forwards Lance Franklin of Sydney and Tom Lynch from the Gold Coast Suns. Toby Greene (GWS), Josh Kennedy (West Coast) and Cyril Rioli (Hawthorn) were the remaining forwards selected in the side.

The livewire Crow featured in the AFL’s Team of the Week six times throughout the year.

Six Crows named in All Australian squad

Betts was the only Crow to make the cut in the final Team of the Year. Several other Crows could consider themselves unlucky to miss selection.

Rory Laird earned an astounding 10 Team of the Week guernseys, despite missing four games to injury. Rory Sloane and Josh Jenkins both featured four times and Daniel Talia was included on three occasions.

Tom Lynch and Rory Atkins were named twice with Scott Thompson, Brodie Smith, Jake Lever, Brad Crouch, Matt Crouch and Taylor Walker the remaining Crows who featured in the side throughout the course of the season.

Minor premiers Sydney dominated the Team of the Year with five players included, ahead of Greater Western Sydney who had four representatives. The Western Bulldogs and West Coast were the only other clubs with multiple players in the side.
