The Adelaide Football Club has thrown its support behind BMX star and Crows ambassador Sam Willoughby who was badly injured in a recent training accident.

The Crows have made a $5000 donation to a fundraising campaign to assist the Olympic silver medallist, who is currently in a San Diego hospital and will soon start a lengthy rehabilitation following spinal surgery.

A two-time world champion hailing from Adelaide's southern suburbs, Willoughby suffered fractured vertebrae, which severely compressed his spinal cord and left him with no movement below his chest, on September 10.

His friends and family have set up www.road2recovery.com/strengthfor91 where you can offer support, whether that be through a financial contribution or words of encouragement. It will also provide updates on Willoughby's progress.
