Adelaide will challenge Richard Douglas’ one-match suspension for rough conduct on Essendon midfielder Zach Merrett during Friday night’s Round One clash.

Douglas’ bump on Merrett, which resulted in the Bomber taking no further part in the game, was assessed by the Match Review Officer as careless conduct with medium impact to the head. The offence is judged as a one-match sanction.

The Crows midfielder will face the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday evening from 5pm Melbourne time.

The Club risks a $10,000 fine if the challenge is unsuccessful however Douglas will not face an extra week on the sidelines if the suspension is upheld, as was previously the case.

Crows Head of Football Brett Burton said it was important to give Douglas a chance to clear his name.

“We feel that Richard executed a legal bump and will argue our case accordingly,” Burton said.

“We have thoroughly reviewed the incident and after seeking some independent expert advice we believe that we have a strong argument which we will present on Tuesday evening.”
