Melbourne key forward Jesse Hogan has officially been ruled out of Saturday night’s round eight clash at Adelaide Oval with illness.

Hogan missed training on Thursday and didn’t board the team flight to Adelaide on Friday morning, with the Demons confirming on Friday afternoon the West Australian was suffering from illness and would not play.

Forwards Sam Weideman and Alex Neal-Bullen both travelled to Adelaide as emergencies for the Demons, with one to be named as Hogan's replacement before the game.
