Adelaide coach Don Pyke insists the Crows don't have any mental scars facing Hawthorn in their quest to win their first game against the Hawks since 2011.

The Crows have lost their past seven encounters with Hawthorn ahead of their Round Two game at the MCG on Saturday.

Crows skipper Taylor Walker, vice-captain Rory Sloane, midfielders Richard Douglas and David Mackay and defenders Andy Otten and Brodie Smith are all that remains of the team that beat the Hawks by 20 points in Round One, 2011 at Football Park.

"The reality is tomorrow's game will be impacted zero by what's happened in the past," Pyke told reporters on Friday.

"We understand how we want to play our game and we understand how Hawthorn want to play, and our efforts tomorrow will dictate if we win or lose.

"I wouldn't have thought the psychology of whether we've beaten them before in recent times is going to have any impact at all."

The Hawks have a very different look as well after the off-season departures of veterans Sam Mitchell, Jordan Lewis and Bradley Hill.

Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson has also made four changes to the side that lost to Essendon last week.

"Clarkson said after the game he felt they didn't control the ball for long periods and he referenced the uncontested marks, so clearly he saw the game as they weren't able to control the ball," Pyke said.

"Generally, if you don't have the ball, you're chasing, teams tend to look a bit slower.

"So I don't think speed is an issue at all with Hawthorn."

Walker will return to the side after recovering from the hamstring injury that kept him out of the season opener, while fellow forward Mitch McGovern has been passed fit from an ankle injury.

"(Walker) has virtually done nearly two weeks of full training, so he's ready to go," Pyke said.

"Mitch had a few bumps and bruises on the weekend, but he's responded really well and he trained yesterday and today.

"He should be good to go."

Electric small forward Eddie Betts trained on Friday after overcoming illness.

Tall defender Jake Lever – a regular in the side last season - will play in a SANFL trial on Friday night in his second game back from a hamstring injury.

"Jake's right on the edge of being selected and there is no question at all about Jake's capacity to play at the level," Pyke said.

"Just in terms of his build, another game won't do him any harm.

"He'll play tonight for our SANFL team and give himself every chance for the coming weeks."
