On Sunday, Adelaide played out a draw for only the second time in the Club’s history.

The first was back in 1994 against St Kilda at Waverley Park. On that day, the Crows came from 29 points down at three-quarter time to level the scores.

It was the third drawn match this season and the first not involving Greater Western Sydney. The Giants drew consecutive games with Geelong and Hawthorn earlier this month.

Not since 2011 has there been three draws in the same AFL season.

Adelaide came from 50 points down early in the third quarter at the MCG on Sunday to salvage a draw.

The Crows kicked 13 of the last 17 goals to secure a vital two premiership points.

The comeback surpassed Adelaide’s previous best of 42 points against Port Adelaide in Round Seven, 2000. The Crows won that match by seven points.

The hero on Sunday, Mitch McGovern, kicked an equal-career high four goals (all in the second half) including one after the final siren to level the scores at 103 points apiece.

McGovern’s clutch grab with only a couple of seconds left in the game was one of eight marks, including five inside 50m, he took for the day.

Adelaide took 18 marks in its forward 50m compared to Collingwood’s eight.

Matt Crouch was the leading possession-winner on the ground with 36, including 15 contested. Crouch also won more clearances (nine) than any other player and laid a team-high 10 tackles.

Adelaide lost the contested possession count by 50 on Sunday (117 – 167) which was nearly double the worst differential of any team on the weekend.

In a reflection of Collingwood’s dominance for the majority of the game, the Magpies also won the clearances, inside 50m and tackle counts.

Returning to the midfield, Richard Douglas collected 28 disposals at 82 per cent efficiency. He also generated six clearances, four inside 50ms and two goal assists.

Swingman Andy Otten, who kicked two important second-half goals, operated at 100 per cent efficiency with his 16 disposals.

In the absence of the brilliant Eddie Betts, Otten (two), McGovern (four) and Josh Jenkins (three), combined for nine goals against the Magpies.

Half-back Brodie Smith was particularly damaging, gathering 26 touches at 89 per cent efficiency and gaining more metres (624) than any other Crow. Smith had 13 combined inside and rebound 50ms – ranked second for the round – took eight marks and kicked a crucial running goal in the last quarter.

Captain Taylor Walker had four goal assists – the equal-most of any player for the round. Walker needs only two more to equal Adelaide’s club record for most goal assists in a season (30).
