Mark Ricciuto celebrated his 300th game by leading Adelaide to a dominant win over North Melbourne on this day 11 years ago.

Under the Friday night lights at AAMI Stadium, Ricciuto steered a slick Crows outfit to victory in front of 47,487 fans present to applaud the achievement of one of the Club’s all-time greats.

Adelaide entered the clash a warm favourite sitting on top of the ladder, while the Kangaroos languished in 13th spot. With the Roos out to cause an upset, it was the milestone ‘Roo’ that ensured anything but.

Ricciuto set the scene early with two goals in the opening term as the Crows jumped out to a handy 20-point buffer at quarter-time.

Adelaide’s momentum continued in the second half, as the Crows outscored the Kangaroos 7.1 to 2.4 in the third, largely thanks to the combined efforts of Ken McGregor, Ricciuto and emerging midfielder Scott Thompson.

Simon Goodwin was prolific for Adelaide after a quieter start by his lofty standards, quickly collecting 22 disposals and seven tackles.

Adelaide ultimately ran away with the match to emerge 72-point winners to salute one of the Club’s favourite sons in style.

Ricciuto finished with 15 disposals, six marks and a game-high five goals in fairytale milestone match.

After locking in a top-two finish in 2006, Ricciuto unfortunately missed Adelaide’s finals campaign due to viral Parvovirus.

Missing their captain, Crows fans were left wondering what could have been as they went down by 10 points to the eventual 2006 premiers West Coast in a Preliminary Final at home.

‘Roo’ was the second Adelaide player to reach the 300-game milestone behind only Ben Hart and later followed by Andrew McLeod and Tyson Edwards.

The country boy from Waikerie would go on to retire with an illustrious list of accolades, finishing his career as a Brownlow Medallist, three-time Club champion and an eight-time All Australian.
