Eddie Betts and Lindsay Thomas may be two of the best small forwards of their generation and amazingly both hail from the tiny Mallee Park Football Club in Port Lincoln.

On Sunday’s episode of The Crows Show we hear how the pair grew up together and, despite taking different pathways to the AFL, have remained close friends throughout.

“We were always those two younger boys playing in the higher age groups,” Thomas said.

“He (Betts) was 13 and I was 12 and we were playing under 17s, we actually won a premiership together.”

Eddie Betts remembers his days at Mallee Park well and recalls the number of AFL players that have come from there including Graham Johncock, Byron Pickett, the Burgoyne brothers and Daniel Wells.

“We’ve got a lot of talent at Mallee Park,” Betts said.

“Even saying that you’ve got players down there that can make the AFL they’re so talented but they don’t want to leave Port Linocln.”

Betts said he and Thomas have been friends since childhood.

“We’ve always been pretty close,” Betts said.

“When I was playing for Carlton we would go around once a month to Lindsay’s house for dinner.”

Thomas said Eddie has been someone he has always gone to for advice.

“He was great for me, he was someone that I knew as well as Daniel Wells obviously,” Thomas said.

“He was someone that I lent on for advice.”
