It is 25 years since Adelaide completed its inaugural season in the national competition with a 73-point win over North Melbourne at Football Park.

A brilliant 11-goal second term set the Crows on the path to kick its highest score of the season (28.12) and gave the Club and its new fans a boost after what had been an exciting but challenging year.

Best on ground was young ruckman Shaun Rehn, playing just his sixth AFL game, while full forward Rod Jameson booted eight goals, Andrew Jarman kicked four goals from 31 possessions and Scott Lee enjoyed a rare spell forward, scoring four goals.

Lee was one of only three Crows to play every game in the first year, along with Grantley Fielke and Rodney Maynard. The Club used 37 players across the year.

The Crows won ten matches in their first season – seven of 11 at Football Park and three of 11 interstate – to finish in ninth place in ninth place.

Coach Graham Cornes said the first season had been “much more demanding than I thought it would be”.

“But the only way to learn that is to live it, to do it. We’ve had some good times this year but the reality is it hasn’t quite been good enough.”
