Round 18 v Sydney, SCG

Adelaide’s finals hopes took a temporary hit following a 52-point loss to Sydney at the SCG in Round 18.

The Crows were never in the contest against the red-hot Swans and dropped to eighth spot on the ladder in what was Kurt Tippett’s first match against his former club.

Sydney led from start to finish at the SCG, but interim Senior Coach Scott Camporeale was pleased his side was at least able to show some spirit in the second half after the Swans’ early onslaught.

Still, Adelaide conceded 32 scoring shots to 20 in what was one of the Club’s most disappointing showings of the season.

ADELAIDE   2.2   4.4   7.8   9.11 (65)
SYDNEY       6.2   11.5   13.9   17.15 (117)

Round 19 v Richmond, Adelaide Oval

Adelaide rejuvenated its hunt for a finals berth with a 36-point victory over Richmond at Adelaide Oval in Round 19.

The Crows overwhelmed the Tigers offensively with huge disparities in clearances (49-28) and inside 50ms (74-39) and the final score flattered the visitors. Poor conversion ultimately cost Adelaide a bigger win.

Charlie Cameron, Taylor Walker, Josh Jenkins and Eddie Betts all booted a pair of goals while tough nuts Scott Thompson (30 possessions) and Patrick Dangerfield (29) controlled the midfield.

The win all but ended Richmond’s top-four hopes and consolidated Adelaide’s position inside the top eight with just four rounds remaining.

ADELAIDE   2.6   5.8   8.16   11.22 (88)
RICHMOND   3.1   5.2   6.2   8.4 (52)

Round 20 v Essendon, Etihad Stadium

A devastating 112-point win over Essendon helped the Crows continue their surge towards finals in Round 20.

It was Adelaide’s biggest win at Etihad Stadium and the Club’s second-best victory over the Bombers out of the 34 meetings between the two teams. The Crows piled on a Club record 11 goals in the final term in the percentage-boosting victory.

Eddie Betts ran amok with five goals while Taylor Walker, Josh Jenkins and Patrick Dangerfield all booted three. Rory Sloane and Rory Laird were prolific, although Adelaide had winners on every line.

The game proved to be James Hird’s last as Essendon coach.

ADELAIDE   3.3   9.6   16.8   27.9 (171)
ESSENDON   4.3   4.6   6.10   8.11 (59)

Round 21 v Brisbane, Adelaide Oval

Another week, and another big win for the Crows as Taylor Walker kicked a career-best seven goals to tame the Lions by 87 points in Round 21.

Walker booted three of his majors in the second quarter as Adelaide slammed on eight unanswered goals and kept Brisbane scoreless for the term to set up the crushing victory.

The Crows were just as relentless in the final term, adding six goals to none to cruise to the finish line and continue the Club’s finals charge.

The result left the Lions anchored in 17th position on the AFL ladder while Adelaide claimed seventh spot from North Melbourne.

ADELAIDE   2.3   10.4   14.6   20.11 (131)

Round 22 v West Coast, Adelaide Oval

Adelaide guaranteed its spot in the finals with an impressive 57-point win over West Coast in the penultimate round.

A record Crows home crowd of 52,460 watched Adelaide kick the opening eight goals of the game in emphatic fashion while holding the second-placed Eagles to just a solitary behind for the first term.

West Coast fought back with five straight goals to cut the margin back to just 26 points by the main break, but the result was never in doubt.

Josh Jenkins bagged a career-high six goals up forward while Daniel Talia held Coleman Medallist Josh Kennedy to just one goal for the afternoon.

ADELAIDE        8.3   9.6   14.8   19.12 (126)

Round 23 v Geelong, Simonds Stadium

It was a flat finish to the minor round for Adelaide at Simonds Stadium in Round 23, with the Crows succumbing to Geelong by 39 points.

The loss was particularly costly given the Crows could’ve earned a home final had the result been reversed.

Adelaide had kicked just three goals to half-time compared to Geelong’s eight as the Cats ran circles around the seemingly slow Crows. But Adelaide rallied in the third quarter and drew to within striking distance of the lead midway through the term.

The Cats had all the answers however, and farewelled retiring trio Steve Johnson, James Kelly and Mathew Stokes in style in front of just over 26,000 at the Cattery.

ADELAIDE   1.3   3.6   9.12   11.14 (80)
GEELONG    5.6   8.9   11.11   17.17 (119)

BEST: Betts, Jacobs, Henderson, Sloane, Dangerfield, Douglas, Laird

GOALS: Betts 4, Lynch 2, Smith, Sloane, Walker, Thompson, Jenkins
