Rory Sloane has joined midfield teammate Patrick Dangerfield in the top 10 of the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year award.

Sloane polled a perfect 10 votes from coaches Brenton Sanderson and Scott Watters in Adelaide’s 40-point win over St Kilda at AAMI Stadium on Sunday. Sloane inspired the Crows in the second quarter, amassing 15 possessions and six marks. He was tagged after half-time and finished the match with 25 touches, 12 marks and a goal assist.

The performance was enough to propel Sloane into 10th place overall on 28 votes. Dangerfield, who didn’t attract a vote this week, is equal third on 35 votes.

In-form midfielder Richard Douglas received seven votes. Douglas topped Adelaide’s possession count with 26. He also took 11 marks, won four clearances and kicked 1.1. Ruckman Sam Jacobs earned five votes after nullifying Ben McEvoy and putting on his best display of the season.  

Leigh Montagna, who amassed 34 possessions, polled four votes, while Saints defender Dylan Roberton received two. Line-breaking Crow David Mackay received one vote for his 23-possession game. Emerging Saints midfielder Jack Newnes also collected one vote.

Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett (41 votes) sits at the top of the overall leaderboard, three votes clear of Swans onballer Daniel Hannebery.
