Adelaide swimmer Matthew Cowdrey is on the verge of becoming Australia’s most successful Paralympian.

Wednesday’s opening ceremony for the London Paralympics will kick off a busy campaign for the 23-year-old Crows supporter, who needs three more Gold Medals from eight events to surpass runner Tim O'Sullivan's Australian record of ten Gold.

Cowdrey, a left-arm below elbow congenital amputee, made his Paralympic debut at age 15 in Athens in 2004.

His greatest Games was in Beijing four years ago when he won five gold medals all in world record time and carried the Australian flag at the closing ceremony.

He will swim eight events in London, including the 50m and 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

"I'm going to go out and swim as fast as I possibly can and will be happy with PBs,” Cowdrey said.

Track stars Katy Parrish and Gabriel Cole are two other Crows supporters among Australia's 161-strong team for the London Games.

Parrish, who suffers from cerebral palsy which affects the left side of her body, made the finals for both her events at the 2008 Games in Beiing and finished fifth in the 200m and eighth in the 100m.

Parrish will compete in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and long jump events in London. The Aussies are ranked third in the world in the 4x100m relay.

“I suppose London is about personal redemption if that makes sense,” she said.

"I've missed out on performing at my best the past two times I have made an Australian team and for that reason I want to deliver in London and if that's a medal then fantastic."

Cole, born with a partially formed left arm, will compete in the 100 metres and 4x100metres events.

The 20-year-old sprinter made the Australian team for the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games and won gold in the 100m at the 2011 National titles.
The swimming competition starts on Thursday and athletics on Friday.
