Patrick Dangerfield and Richard Douglas have been selected in the 2013 All-Australian squad of 40.

Dangerfield was selected on a half-forward flank in the 2012 All Australian team, while Douglas will be hoping to secure his first All-Australian crown.

Dangerfield enjoyed another individually brilliant season, winning plenty of the ball in the midfield and also creating a nightmare match-up for opposition teams as a forward.

The game-breaking 23-year-old ranked fourth at Adelaide in total disposals (466) and also kicked 31 goals to finish second in the Club’s goalkicking. He ranked fourth in the AFL for centre clearances (59) and hard ball-gets (118), seventh in contested possessions (274) and eighth in inside 50ms (102).

He also generated 16 score assists and often went ‘third man up’ in the ruck, winning 48 hit-outs. Dangerfield reached the 100-game milestone against Sydney in Round 11.

Douglas, 26, recaptured his best-and-fairest winning form of 2010 this season. The long-kicking onballer overcame an injury-interrupted couple of years to play all 22 games. He ranked second at Adelaide in total disposals (543), including 326 kicks – 13th in the AFL overall.

A feature of the damaging onballer’s game was his ‘two-way’ running, or willingness to work hard in attack and defence. He ranked third in the League for inside 50ms (117) and sixth for combined inside and rebound 50ms (159).

Douglas kicked 20 goals to finish fourth in Adelaide’s goalkicking and ranked eighth in the competition for goal assists (21). He also laid 86 tackles, finishing behind only Scott Thompson in that statistic at West Lakes and took more running bounces than any other Crow (28).

The All Australian selectors were not asked to nominate the leading players in each section of the field -- forwards, defenders and midfielders / ruckmen – but simply to name the best players of the season.

However, the final team of 22, to be named on Monday September 16 in Melbourne, is selected to best fit team balance as if to play a match.

Top-four sides Hawthorn, the Geelong Cats, Fremantle and the Sydney Swans each supplied five members of the 40-man squad, while North Melbourne had four players nominated.

GWS Giants had the first player nominated for potential All Australian selection in the new club’s short two-year history with Jeremy Cameron nominated as one of 25 players who has never previously been named as an All Australian in their careers.

In contrast to the 25 potential debutants, Gold Coast Suns skipper Gary Ablett again made the expanded 40-mansquad and is in line for his seventh consecutive year as an All Australian player while Corey Enright, Lance Franklin, Nick Riewoldt and Dane Swan are each bidding for their fifth separate selections in an All Australian side.
