Crows midfielder Scott Thompson says the team still believes it can turn its season around.

Entering the bye weekend, Adelaide holds a record of five wins and seven losses after going down to Richmond by 38 points at the MCG on Saturday. The Club appeared to be back on track following a solid month of football in May, but has now slipped to two disappointing defeats – at the hands of Richmond and Sydney – in as many weeks.

Adelaide has a fortnight to prepare for its next match against an improved Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium. Thompson said it was an important two weeks for the Club.

“We need to freshen up and keep the demand and feedback on each other to improve in a lot of areas,” Thompson said.

“Hopefully, we can get our season back on track. At 5-7 it’s a tough ask, but I still think we’ve got the belief within the group to get ourselves up and going.”

The shining light in Adelaide’s loss, Patrick Dangerfield said the remaining 10 rounds of the home-and-away season would “test” the playing group.

“They boys are disappointed – everyone at the Club is disappointed. We’re not in the position we’d like to be in,” Dangerfield said after the game.

“But what’s done is done. We can’t undo the games we’ve lost. It’s disappointing, but it’s a test for the group. You’ll find something out about the group and how the group is willing to respond.”

The Crows players will assemble at West Lakes on Monday before having two days away from the Club. The team will also have the weekend off, but coach Brenton Sanderson said the group would be subjected to some solid training sessions in between.

“It’s certainly not holidays for us. We’re in no position to take the foot off the throat,” he said.

“We’ll allow the players to freshen up mentally and physically, but we’ll also put in a hard training block for them as well.”
